Barcelona fans anxiously await the latest Andre ter Stegen injury update after the star goalkeeper suffered a significant setback. Late in the first half, Ter Stegen went down in pain after an awkward landing and had to be stretchered off the field with his head in his hands, raising immediate concerns about the severity of the injury.
Barcelona has since confirmed that Ter Stegen has sustained a “complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee.” He is scheduled to undergo surgery soon, after which a detailed recovery timeframe will be provided.
The initial Andre ter Stegen injury update suggests that he could be sidelined for up to eight months, a devastating blow for both the player and the team.
“We are all sad because it’s a huge injury,” said coach Flick. “You could see it in his behaviour when he was on the pitch and when he was taken off. At half-time, I told the team, ‘Let’s play for Marc, give an extra 10%,’ and I think we had a great second half.”
With Ter Stegen out, academy graduate Inaki Pena stepped up and looks set to take over as Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Ander Astralaga, who has yet to play a minute of senior football, will be promoted to serve as the backup.
